Re: 5 Oz silver coins
I really like these, and you can get fitted air-tites for them. Like most sunshine silver they are shiny and beautiful! :ok:

Re: 5 Oz silver coins
The rounds are impressive and beautiful! I have a dozen of them around here somewhere at the bottom of a nearby lake.
Looks like Apmex already has them in air tites, Bonus! :yippee: |

If you have the cash, get the 5 oz Sunshine round. I picked one up from APMEX, it is worth it! Better than any bars I have seen. I don't know about the U.S. Mint 5 oz "quarter". My understanding is that it is a "bullion" product. I read an article (I'll see if I can locate it for here) that since it is a bullion product, it won't be offered through the mint site. It can only be obtained through an authorized dealer (like the current bullion gold and silver coins). Could be limited dealers and the National Park Service. But at this point I think it is mostly a guess. Should be interesting for ebay when it hits. I found the website for what I can find on the 5 oz "quarter": http://americathebeautifulsilver.com/ |
Re: 5 Oz silver coins
A friend of mine went to Sunshine Mint and got them to triple strike some 10 oz rounds with the Sunshine Logo. They have a proof like finish. I've seen them. I think he sold a few at a huge markup due to the collector value. Supposedly Sunshine told him that they would never triple strike again....

Lunars in 5ozt are awesome. I actually prefer the 5ozt version over the 10ozt.

Re: 5 Oz silver coins
It seems to be hard to find the Year of the Mouse, Gainesville has some Tigers in stock and I have one of those on the way. I have some 2 ounce lunars but I really think the 5 Ozers would be better. Apmex has the Ox, although I was born in the year of the Ox, I am not really very fond of them...Maybe after I see how I like the Tiger!

Re: 5 Oz silver coins
I really like 5 oz coins, for some reason I find them more satisfying than a 5 oz bar. I'm no photographer, but here's a couple of my favorites.

Re: 5 Oz silver coins
Very nice coins agmom. The one with the pyramid...I have seen some of those on ebay. I agree some of the proofs have outrageous premiums...but I can splurge for one or two here and there. The 5 oz coins are better than bars any day. Thanks for the pics:ok:

Here is a pic of the 5 oz Sunshine silver round with an one ouncer. The pic doesn't do it justice, but it has a very nice proof finish. I agree with Irons, very shiny. You can never have enough shiny silver. But anyway, here it is.
I also just picked up a 12-ounce silver round minted by the Casa de Moneda de Mexico. It doesnt fit in this 5 oz thread so I listed it in the "Great Snags and WTF" thread. Check it out. |

Re: 5 Oz silver coins
I recieved a 5oz Lunar Tiger the other day. Can't say I don't like it. The 1oz I got I thought was as good as I've seen, of course that's just my preference. The 5 oz is awesome imo.

Re: 5 Oz silver coins
I really like the details on the sunshine eagle round! Thanks for the pics hydro:s9: There is just something substantial about the 5 oz coins. I wish I had thought of collecting them sooner. They seem to be pretty popular and the lunars seem to hard to find.
